Lim Jeong-Mi

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that inhibit occupational therapists from
entering the care market and promote turnover, and to present its alternatives to solve the problem.

Methods: Four occupational therapists working in long-term care facilities from June 19 to June 26, 2019, were interviewed. Content analysis was adopted.

Results: Seven categories were identified as hindrances to the entry and retention of occupational therapists
in the long-term care market, including problems with staffing arrangement, negative perceptions of long-term care institutions, and difficulties in obtaining recruitment-related information.

Conclusion: Based on the results of the interview, recommendations were made for the adjustment of staffing
arrangement standards, the introduction of professional qualifications related to geriatric rehabilitation,
the reorganization of university curriculum, and the strengthening of practice-oriented job training. This study is significant as a evidence data for promoting the entry and retention of occupational therapists in the long-term care market.
